The SIM (Surat Izin Mengemudi — the Indonesian driving licence) test is designed to ensure that every driver has knowledge of traffic law, an awareness of safety, and the physical skill to control a vehicle.

Scope of the Tests

  1. Theory Test: Uses a computerised system (AVIS/Computer Based Test) containing audiovisual questions on traffic ethics, the meaning of road signs, and hazard awareness.
  2. Practical Test: Tests braking, cornering, turning around, and balance manoeuvres on the official Satpas (the police driving licence issuing office) test course.
