A new STNK (Surat Tanda Nomor Kendaraan — the vehicle registration certificate) is issued as the first-time registration of a motor vehicle newly purchased from a dealer or lawfully imported.

Registration may be delegated to the dealer or handled directly by the owner, who must bring the official purchase invoice.
How long is a new STNK valid?
An STNK is valid for 5 years from the date of issue and must be validated every year.
Is the number plate (TNKB) handed over together with the STNK?
Yes. Once the STNK has been printed, the official TNKB is produced at the Samsat plate-printing workshop.
